JEFF EHRLICH

HEAD COACH, US AIR FORCE ACADEMY

Head Coach Jeff Ehrlich is currently in his 11th season at the helm of the water polo program at the Academy. He came to Air Force in 1999 after a 25-year stay at Villa Park High School in Orange County, Calif. In his first nine years at Air Force, Ehrlich has led the team to a combined 129-128 record and a top-20 finish in the nation in eight seasons with the highest final ranking of 13th. Ehrlich holds a 95-62 conference record, placing in the top four in six of the last nine years. Under his tutelage, the Falcons have had 18 different players earn NCAA All-Academic honors a total of 33 times, while 17 players have combined for 27 WWPA All-Association selections. In addition, six players--Casey Wood, Charlie Toth, Chris Smith, Scott Butler, Murphey Morgan and Clark Condict--have distinguished themselves as NCAA All-Americans. Condict, a third-team All-American in 2008, became just the third third-team selection in Air Force history and the first since 1996. Two other athletes, Toth and Kyle Schafer, were both recipients of the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship, while Schafer was named a CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine Academic All-American in 2007.

Over the past ten years, Ehrlich's goals at Air Force have been: to help 100 percent of the water polo athletes graduate from the Academy, to continue adding Academic All-Americans, to battle for the conference championship and qualify for the NCAA Championships, to establish one volunteer project for the team to accomplish in Colorado Springs and to help the Academy develop Air Force officers with a vision for tomorrow.

During his tenure at Villa Park, Ehrlich posted some impressive numbers. He owned a 484-171 record, winning nine league championships and 25-straight city championships. His teams qualified for the California Interscholastic Federation playoffs 24 years in a row, making it to the finals on five occasions (1980, 1981, 1982, 1989 and 1995). His team captured the CIF title in 1981. Ehrlich received much recognition for his success, as he was named CIF Coach of the Year in 1979, 1981, 1989 and 1995.

Ehrlich has coached 59 All-Americans, including 1988 Olympic silver medalist Doug Kimbell and Olympic athlete Gavin Arroyo, who competed in 1996 and 2000.

Krsto Sbutega

KRSTO SBUTEGA

2008 PETE CUTINO AWARD FINALIST

2008 1ST-TEAM ALL-AMERICAN

3-TIME ALL-AMERICAN

CURRENT MEMBER, MONTENEGRO NATIONAL TEAM

5TH ALL-TIME, SCORING, UCLA

Krsto Sbutega has just completed a career at UCLA that will forever cement his place as one of the Bruin greats.  Sbutega was prolific around the cage in his four-year career as he scored 143 goals, placing him 5th all-time in the UCLA record books.  For his efforts this past fall, Krsto was named 1st Team All-America by the ACWPC.  Furthermore, Krsto's efforts have rewarded him with a trip to the Olympic Club this June as he will be one of three candidates up for the Pete Cutino Award, which is presented each year to the nation's best water polo player.

Sbutega has scored no less than 30 goals in each of the last three seasons.  This past fall, Krsto netted a team high of 50 goals, making him the first Bruin since Brett Ormsby (2004 US Olympian) to score 50 or more goals in a season.

Slight in stature (6 feet tall), Krsto's ability to score at the Division I and international level is a direct result of his concentration on shooting.  His ability to manipulate defenses and goalies has been proven in any scenario:  front court, isloation, counter attack, 6-on-5, bad angle and penalty shots.  We are excited for Krsto to be a part of the Elite Polo staff this summer and know his experience and skill will enhance that of any player.

Sam BaileySAM BAILEY

ASST. COACH, UCLA BRUINS, 2007-2008

2-TIME NCAA CHAMPION

Sam Bailey has just completed his second season as an assistant coach on the UCLA water polo coaching staff. Bailey, who also served as an assistant with the women's water polo team, returned to his alma mater in the fall of 2007 after having been a part of two NCAA championship teams (1996, 1999) while at UCLA.

Bailey served as head assistant coach on the Stanford men's water polo staff in 2005-2006.

The former Bruin was the head coach of the boys' water polo team at Corona del Mar High School in 2004, when he earned CIF Coach of the Year honors.  While at Corona del Mar, current UCLA head assistant coach and former UCLA teammate Matt Flesher worked with Bailey as an assistant coach.  Bailey also served as an assistant coach of the girls' water polo team at Corona del Mar High School from 2002-2004.
